DigiTimes is reporting that Apple’s MacBook Air line is about to be refreshed with ThunderBolt and Sandy Bridge processors.
According to the site, the refreshed machines are due in June or July, based on what they’ve heard from part manufacturers.
Of course, Apple won’t comment on such stories, but DigiTimes is hearing that Apple’s partners are ramping up for new machines:
Main supply chain makers for the new models remain about the same as for the existing MacBook Air, with Quanta Computer solely responsible for assembly, Catcher Technology supplying casings, Auras Technology a main supplier of thermal modules, Shin Zu Shing supplying hinges, and Simplo Technology and Dynapack supplying batteries, the sources pointed out. However, none of the makers have confirmed their participation in making new MacBook Airs.
Reviews of the current MacBook Airs have been positive across the board, despite the older Core2Duo processors currently used in the machines. Faster processors and I/O can only further help the popular machines sell well.

Man, I just bought the current-gen 11" Air. Bah. I really don't care about the Thunderbolt, but a faster proc could be nice…

LikePersonally I'm glad I didn't wait for updated MBAs and got the iPad 2.
But MBAs with Thunderbolt are the holy grail of mobile computing, at least for me.
Even thinking about the 11" top of the line MBA — the USS Defiant among MacBooks as I like to call it — paired with a nice 1 TB Thunderbolt drive, sends shivers down my spine.
Yet: Where's my new Mac Mini for Chris' Sake?

LikeHopefully some more flash storage too. This will help those that really want a MBA but need the storage and power of the 13" MBP.
The Air's are great but the 13" MBP is still the sweet spot, especially for back to school.
Maybe we can add a backlit keyboard in the wish list too.
