What is it about IM applications on the iPhone that influences developers to head down the path of ugly design and pathetic interfaces? You know what I’m talking about. If it lets you instant message, it’s probably super ugly. Verbs on the other hand is sleek and sexy. It’s minimal, and it focuses on your messages and not that gaudy background you love so much.
While we’re reserving the right to review this application in full at a later date, we did want to point out that the application exists and supports not only Google Talk, AIM, and MobileMe accounts, but that it also lets you share files over CloudApp and Droplr. It even lets you view images, PDFs, Office, and iWork files from directly in application.
If you’re looking for a better instant messaging client on your iPhone, you’re gonna want to check out Verbs. So far it’s great. Once I get some more time with it, I’ll be sure to write up a lengthy review.

Hey Joshua - when you get around to reviewing the app, perhaps you can do an IM shootout? I currently use IM+ and have been quite happy with it... Thanks!

LikeThat's a great idea. I'll see what we can come up with. :)

LikeI'm with sb on this one. You can't have an I'm client without background notifications. I read on their forums about they are going to charge a yearly fee for background support. Sod that. I'll stick with Im+. Maybe not as nice ui but much more functionality and no yearly fee.

LikeI really like the app; the UI is among the best on iOS.
I don't use IM very often, but when I do I turn to Verbs.
I'd use it even more often, given the developers would finally get around to implementing ICQ compatibility.

LikeConsidering push notifications are garbage to begin with, I have no problem recommending the application. The app is 100% usable. Have you tried it?

LikeOf course I have tried this, but I can't use it as it lack push notification, I am a 24/7 online person.
I can't live without push notification, so I switched back to Beejive and then now go with Trillian which sync across all my data across every logged in sessions. They made good use of push notification to keep me in sync with Mac / Windows / iPad and iPhone.
To be fair, even if you think push notification is garbage to begin with, not everybody agree with it. And since every IM apps come with push notification service, you have the responsibility to mention the lack of it for this IM app.

LikeOmission is a pretty strong indicator that it doesn't support push notifications.

LikeI don't know how many times I commented on those so called beautiful but rubbish apps.
THIS THING HAS NO PUSH NOTIFICATION!
Why will the author recommend something like this?
Local notification is good enough for an IM app? I don't think so.
Please don't recommend apps just based on "beautiful (gray)" UIs (and money).
We need beautifully designed, yet usable apps.
