Just a quick note to remind you that Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunter, the new Monster Hunter game for iOS, is coming out tonight. Already available in New Zealand, it should be appearing on the North American App Store around 11PM EST.
I’m a HUGE Monster Hunter fan, but only recently have I come to appreciate the game, picking it up on its latest console version, Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii. I’ll be picking this one up just because.
Any Monster Hunter fans out there? If you’re in New Zealand and you’ve got this already, care to leave us a comment?

My main iOS photo editor of choice has been replaced by… itself?
Photoforge2 is now available in the app store. GhostBird Software has rewritten it from the ground up as a new, separate app. It is gorgeous and FAST. This program does about 75% of what people use photoshop for on a casual basis. With its current $3 price tag, I can’t imagine why someone would pass this up.

Lodsys has confirmed that it has begun filing suits against app developers today, before the deadline the patent holder had previously given. In a blog post, the company said “Lodsys chose to move its litigation timing to an earlier date than originally planned, in response to Apple’s threat, in order to preserve its legal options.”

Update: This software update — as promised by Apple — locates and removes variants of the MacDefender program if present. Also, File Quarantine will now check with Apple daily to download new security definitions, so the company should be able to respond to threats much quicker. Apple has published information about this on its Support site.
Today, Apple has released Security Update 2011-003 for Snow Leopard. It can be downloaded via Software Update, or from Apple’s site.
It’s hard to say what Apple’s included in this update, as these are the notes:
Previous security updates have been incorporated into this security update.
If we hear anything more, we’ll let you know.

Find my iPhone has been huge, so huge in fact, people have taken to the street to wrongfully beat down accused thieves who have stolen their mobile phones. We may begin hearing tales of vigilantes hitting the streets in search of Macs as soon as OS X Lion gets announced next week at WWDC.

There has been a slew of information about mobile market shares hitting the Internet tubes over the last 48 hours due to a report filed by Nielsen. A lot of information can be gleaned from reading between the lines a little bit, so instead of providing you with three posts on various aspects of the report like others have done, we’ve decided to place three pretty interesting things in the post here.
Android seems to be up against the wall a little bit, and there’s some interesting research to back this up. We mentioned the Nielsen report earlier, but really there have been two separate reports highlighting the success of iOS and the stagnation of Android as a platform.
According to both studies, Apple’s iOS devices account for two-thirds of all app downloads, and Android has seen its market share drop for the first time in recent memory. Those are two pretty large differences in the platforms, and it’s probably something that most, us included, would have never guessed would become a reality.

I was honored to be a guest on Enough — The Minimal Mac Podcast this week. Check out the newest episode, in which I talk with friend of the site Patrick Rhone and our own Myke Hurley about BBQ and the very small number of apps I have installed 64 GB SSD MacBook Air I just bought. Oh, and I called Josh a Dark Overlord. Which he is still sad about.
Enough is a great podcast. It’s even better when I’m not on it. It is more than deserving to be tossed into your favorite podcast app.
