Go for a round with Super Stickman Golf

SSG2 Go for a round with Super Stickman GolfMarco Arment recommended this game on his personal blog, so I figured I’d check it out. It’s rare to see recommendations of apps – especially games – on a blog like Marco’s, and I trust his opinions and therefore his recommendations.

Super Stickman Golf is a 2D platform-ish game based around golf. That would be my one line summary, as that’s kind of what it is. Golf games on iOS usually follow the conventions of a simulator – typically 3D – with the camera positioned behind your character. You would then select your club, pay attention to wind resistance, how many yards from the green, etc. However, Super Stickman Golf (SSG) pays no attention to any of this—it’s effectively a golf game boiled down to the nuts and bolts with a zany platform element thrown in for good measure.

Apple buys iCloud.com for $4.5 million

4024116823 d2fde53a41 Apple buys iCloud.com for $4.5 millionApple bought me.com just before relaunching .Mac as MobileMe, and it appears that Apple is at it again. 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple has purchased the domain iCloud.com for $4.5 million from Xcerion.  What does this mean for the cloud music locker that is rumored to be in development? Well, it looks like it will be named iCloud, and the rumors might just turn to fact.

Moreover, does this mean that MobileMe is going away? I don’t think so. I believe that iCloud will be added to MobileMe. You’ll have your mobile syncing service, and then you will have your music locker accessible from iCloud.com. As for cost for either service, it’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s rumored that Apple will charge $20.00 a year for the music locker, but where does that leave MobileMe in pricing? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I feel that Apple will announce the new domain and pricing at WWDC.

What do Imogen Heap, Kraftwerk, Snow Patrol and Bootsy Collins have in common? They’re all artists that use TC-Helicon products to treat or loop their vocals. TC-Helicon is a Canadian company that is dedicated to making pro gear strictly for vocalists. They have a number of voice processors, vocal loopers, and a whole line of vocal stomp boxes. Today they released an update to their VoiceJam app for iPhone and iPad, and it adds a whole lot of new features to their music making app.

Move your Web Reciepts folder to Dropbox or iDisk

webreciepts Move your Web Reciepts folder to Dropbox or iDisk

Apple’s inclusion of a Web Receipts folder in OS X was pretty genius. From any print dialog screen you can send a PDF directly to the Web Receipts folder. It makes organizing your serial code information, online receipts, and other stuff very simple.

But, the problem is I work in a multi-computer environment. Sometimes I’ll buy something online and save it to the Web Receipts folder on my Mac Pro, but later need to retrieve it while I’m on my MacBook Pro. It’s a pain in the backside trying to manage multiple Web Receipt folders on multiple computers when technologies like Dropbox and iDisk are available, and could make the process so much easier.

With a couple of quick .plist hacks, you can be on your way to syncing your Web Receipt folders across Dropbox or iDisk.

Here’s how you do it

white iphone unicorn two Apple: Albino iPhone 4 needed more UV protectionIt’s not too often that the big wigs at Apple take time out of their busy schedules to address the media about delayed products. But, that’s exactly what they did today when they partook in an interview with All Things Digital’s Ina Fried.

Screw the weatherman, get a forecast from your neighbors with Weddar

weddar Screw the weatherman, get a forecast from your neighbors with WeddarWeather reports don’t exactly leave the population polarized. Everyone pretty much agrees that the local weatherman is rolling the dice before best-guesstimating what the forecast is going to be. Why we still rely on some random dude with a barometer and airport is beyond me. Instead, why don’t we just rely on what our neighbours are seeing and feeling when it comes to the weather?

Viddy, an “Instagram for video” app?

Viddy 257x500 Viddy, an Instagram for video app?Instagram has been a pretty big hit, and with their constant updates that provide new filters and other useful features, it seems that more apps want a piece of their pie. Viddy is being pitched by their developers as “Instagram for video,” but will it be as popular?

Instagram is a pretty solid app, allowing users to share photos (that have almost all been highly edited with filters) through Twitter and other networks, including Instagram itself. The service is quick and easy to use, and in all honesty, seems to make most users’ boring photos (including my own!) look slick and amazing.

What Viddy does is pretty similar. You can shoot a video, apply any number of “cinematic production packs” — the equivalent of the filters in Instagram —  to stylize your footage, which you can then share on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

News this time of year is always a little iPhone heavy. We’re trying hard to avoid turning the podcast into an iPhone-centric episode at this point, but if our stats are any indicator, the iPhone 5 is on a lot of people’s mind this time around.

If you’ve been paying attention to the rumor mill the last couple of weeks, you’ve probably noticed an interesting looking mockup popup on the This is my next website.  There’s a lot about it that we both love and hate, so we decided to talk about it at length.

What’s the point of talking about the iPhone 5 if we’re not going to stop for a moment and address the possibilities of a World Mode iPhone, and whether or not Verizon CFO Fran Shammo meant what we have assumed he meant when he said,

The fluctuation, I believe, will come when a new device from Apple is launched, whenever that may be, and that we will be, on the first time, on equal footing with our competitors on a new phone hitting the market, which will also be a global device.”

We’re not sure that global device means world mode.

Finally, there’s been a lot of talk about RIM’s Playbook, but Apple pointed out that 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies are testing or deploying iPhones. Add in a cup of interest from the medical industry, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for success.

We chat about all of this stuff on the podcast, so make sure you give it a listen.
