Whimsical physics based construction puzzle game World Of Goo finally makes its way onto the iPhone, and to celebrate, 2D Boy is putting it on sale for $0.99 for 24 hours. Originally released on WiiWare and PC/Mac/Linux platforms, the game has been available for some time on the iPad, but not for the iPhone. Until now.

In World Of Goo, you place sticky goo balls together to make structures. The goal of each level is to get a certain number of goo balls to a pipe, which will suck away the goo balls when they are close enough to it. Getting them there, across chasms or through other devious obstacles, well, that’s the challenge.

The 2D Boy team learned a few things about marketing from their iPad release, and explain their approach this time around on their blog. Having priced the iPad version too high initially ($10), and later reducing it to $5, it left a bad feeling with some customers who paid the initial price. So to make it up to their iPad customers, if you’ve purchased the iPad version, it is now universal, so you essentially get the iPhone version for free.

In addition, the game includes a “strange new character” who appears at the end of the game, exclusive to the iOS version of the game.

The regular price for the iPhone version is $2.99, so act quickly if you want to take advantage of the sale. And then be prepared to experience a drop in productivity for the next week or so. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
