Rare, sealed Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh pops up on eBay

20th Ann Mac Rare, sealed Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh pops up on eBayThe Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh is a strange machine. For sale in 1997, the TAM was built to mark Apple’s 20th anniversary, and costs $7,499. It featured many innovations we now take for granted, such as an all-in-one design featuring an LCD and a trackpad for use with a desktop computer. It’s considered by many the system used by Jonathan Ive and the rest of Apple’s design team to play with things that they would use for years to come.

The TAM can run up to OS 9.1, and such upgrades as G3 chips were on the market for some time.

Only 11,601 were sold. As such, these machines are now super rare, and considered collectible by Apple historians. And one just popped up on eBay, new in the box. According to Electronista, the accessory boxes have been opened for inspection, but all components are still in their original packaging.

At the time of this post, the auction is up to $1,025.00. I fully expect it to go higher in the next six days.

Screen shot 2011 03 28 at 2.55.33 PM WWDC 2011 and design awards announced, but no iPhone 5?Apple’s officially announced WWDC 2011 today. According to the press release, Apple will be holding the event from June 6th until the 10th at Moscone West in San Francisco.

From the press conferences notes, it’s painfully clear that Apple’s going to be focusing on the future of iOS and Mac OS. It’s been highly rumored that developers may get a first look at OS X Lion in its Gold Master state, as well as a brief glimpse of what to expect in iOS 5.

The conference also carries a $1599.00 price tag this year. If you’re interested in attending, you’ll want to jump on the sign up quickly. WWDC sells out very quickly year after year.

iOS 5 slated for a fall release, preview at Apple’s WWDC in June?

LonelyJobsiPad2 iOS 5 slated for a fall release, preview at Apples WWDC in June?

When the iPad 2 was unveiled, Apple disappointed more than a few people by not saying anything about the next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 5. That may have been because they weren’t ready to, according to an article by MG Siegler over at TechCrunch. Two of their sources have confirmed that iOS 5 is not going to be released until the fall.

Traditionally, the pattern for Apple has been to unveil a new iOS in the spring in order to be ready for a summer launch in conjunction with new iPhone hardware. It looks like this won’t be the case for 2011. If there’s anything I’ve learned watching Apple over the years, it’s that they don’t like to rush things, and would rather wait for something to be done right rather than release something sub par.

Review: Cinemek Storyboard Composer

sc01 Review: Cinemek Storyboard Composer

This is the last in my short review series on storyboarding apps. I saved it for last because it is by far my favorite.

Cinemek Storyboard Composer has nearly everything you’d ever need from a storyboarding app. It has been around for a while and still proceeds to outshine every other app I’ve seen.

Not only is it worth far beyond its price tag, but it demonstrates what app designers can really achieve with the iOS platform. Relatively unchanged since its release, Storyboard Composer is still one of the more ground-breaking apps in my filmmaking arsenal, and it’s definitely number one in the “whoa” factor.

Mac OS X Lion nearing GM status?

Screen shot 2011 03 26 at 5.39.33 PM Mac OS X Lion nearing GM status?

With the developer preview of Lion only a month old, MG Siegler at TechCrunch thinks the next version of OS X is already nearing GM status.

While that developer preview hasn’t been updated yet, Siegler believes Apple is busy squashing bugs and will be dropping a “GM1″ copy soon, to stay on track for a summer launch.

In the past, Apple has used WWDC to show off a near-final version of the next OS X, and release a near-final GM, so Siegler’s timing may be just right.
