With shortages on display panels being rumored, it’s no surprise that Apple’s moving quickly to ensure that they have an adequate supply for the pent up iPad 2 demand. According to Reuters, AU Optronics Corp just struck a gold mine. The company has signed a deal with Apple and is expecting to ship upwards of 30 million displays.

Apple could be looking to add 3D cameras to the iPhone
March 31, 2011
3D is all the rage, so why wouldn’t Apple be looking into bringing 3D capable cameras to the iPhone?
According to a patent application, Apple’s not only thinking about 3D cameras, but they’re also working on making it a reality. Now, before you run out and start planning an Avatar fan film, you should probably know that this is a long way off. Heck, it might never actually make its way to the iPhone.
Amazon Cloud Drive, we take it for a spin
March 30, 2011
Today Amazon unveiled its most ambitious project yet, Cloud Drive. Cloud Drive, in case you’re not aware, is a way to save your music, documents, photos, and even videos to Amazon’s storage to be playable from any web browser or Android device that runs Amazon’s Cloud Player application.
Part of this new strategy includes 5GB of free space to store your media.
When you sign up for Amazon Cloud Drive, you’re presented with a blank screen that has no data in it. At this point you might be asking, what do I do next? Well, you upload your music or other files. This is done using the Amazon MP3 Uploader.
Apple seeds a second Lion build to developers
March 30, 2011
Apple has released a second developer build of the highly anticipated seventh revision of its flagship operating system, OS X Lion. Sporting a build number of 11A419, it represents quite a few revisions past the previous release, which was 11A390. Apple’s developer community was rather outspoken about the last preview release, complaining that it was rather buggy.
This revision should represent a massive improvement, and is rumored to be considered the first “Golden Master” candidate, meaning it’s very close to what we’ll see when Lion ships.
Your iPhone can now take 8-bit photos just like your Gameboy
March 30, 2011
We almost completely forgot that Nintendo had a portable camera for their Gameboy. In fact, now that I think about it, it may have been the first portable gaming device to actually have a built in camera, and that was way back in 1998. The camera was capable of busting out super low resolution 8-bit pictures.
Guess what? Since low-fi, retro photos are all the rage, it would be perfect time to release a similar iPhone application. And guess what else? You can now download 8-bit Pocket Camera on the App Store. The application not only takes super poor quality photos, it even lets you create a virtual sticker book so you can revisit your pictures later on.
Ahh, 8-bit, we’re so glad you’re making a comeback.
Apple is still selling iPad 1 refurbs for cheap
March 30, 2011
If you’re looking to get your hands on an iPad, but you don’t want to fork out the cash for a brand new iPad 2, you can go the official refurb route.
Apple’s still selling refurbished iPads for $349.00 online. For the discounted price, you’ll get a 16GB Wi-Fi version. You should also keep in mind that the iPad has been refurbished, which means that it went back to Apple at some point for some kind of repair.
CleverWraps disposable iPad 2 wrap for $5 is not clever at all
March 30, 2011
OK, so I’ve been looking at a bunch of different iPad 2 cases lately, since I managed to snag one on launch weekend here in Canada. And yes, one of the possible places you might want to use a case for your iPad is in the kitchen, where it will need some kind of protection from the elements. But, would I pay $5 for what is essentially a disposable plastic bag for my iPad? CleverWraps is hoping so.
Are you kidding me? Sold in a three pack for $14.99, the CleverWrap for iPad is a protective sleeve made from “crystal clear, high grade poly” and is billed as offering protection against “incidental contact with water, sand, grease, dirt and other harmful materials.” That’s all well and good, but it seems a bit pricey for a disposable wrapper. A quick check of amazon.com shows me a 52 count box of 1 gallon Ziploc bags for about $8, which works out to, let’s see, $0.15 a bag. That’s a lot less than a CleverWrap, and you don’t even have to throw it away, you could wash it and use it again if you want.
iSkin releases Claro for your iPhone 4
March 30, 2011
What’s the point of owning a super sleek iPhone 4 if you’re going to be covering it up with a hideous case? Go naked—that’s our mantra around here. And in this case, it works too. Sure, you might scratch your device up a little bit, but it’s worth it. That glass iPhone looks amazing.
