Boxee is planning on bringing a huge update to your iPad. According to Boxee’s VP of Marketing, a new Boxee app will roll out at the end of March, and the app will let you stream content from your iPad to your Boxee Box. In addition to streaming to your Boxee box, there’s also been some mention of the new Boxee app working with AirPlay and the Apple TV.
From TechAU,
Another big announcement is that there’ll also be an iPad app for Boxee that allows you to stream content to your TV, via Boxee Box. Effectively they just announced Boxee Box will have AirPlay support !
If it turns out to be true, and the Boxee app will actually be taking advantage of AirPlay, it would be an interesting conundrum for the company. On the one hand, it would mean getting access to the vast consumer base that uses the Apple TV as their primary Web/TV device, but it also means that people may be less inclined to buy the actual Boxee Box.
Personally, I’d love to see Boxee get AirPlay support.
Update: It’s been confirmed, Boxee will be available for the iPad some time in May 2011

Two things...
1. Will this not be more likely to make the Apple TV obsolete instead of the other way around? Boxee is not tied to iTunes and appears to be way more flexible.
2. The release only says that you will be able to stream to a Boxee Box not an Apple TV and not a Boxee application on a computer. I wonder what the specifics are exactly.
The Boxee Box is about double the cost of an ATV so you will pay for the added utility.
One More Thing.... If you can stream to a pc with the Boxee app from an iPad. Then Boxee will allow everyone to stream from an iPad to any pc for free. Just download the free pc app, potentially free ipad app, make sure they are both on the same network and start streaming. This has been a major drawback of the intial release of Apple Airplay for me.

LikeNot to mention the Boxee Box does 1080p... Double the resolution Double the Price makes some sense

LikeNo. The only reason I bought a Boxee Box was to stream videos of any format. Now with airplay, I can do this with Apple TV at half the cost.
Lets see... $99 Apple TV, or $199 Boxee Box. Tough choice, unless you are one of the dozen people who actually use their systems to play dumb web apps.
Boxee has to chance down the Apple TV, this is a good move on their part. I use the free Air Video server though, so not sure this will be of any benefit actually.
(I'm not paying $99 more just for 1080p, considering most the videos I get aren't in that format anyway...)

Likeactually you cannot stream anything to the Apple TV only stuff that is iTunes compatible. This says it is going to be a Boxee App for iPad not ATV.
