ipad infographic Infographic: The iPad pretty much translates to money no matter how you slice it

Based on a report from Yudu Media, The Gigaom group has put together an infographic that tells a pretty interesting story about iPad users. It becomes pretty obvious that iPad owners have no problem spending money on apps, clicking on interactive ads, and making purchases based on advertising.  It’s also interesting to see how quickly users seem to be embracing the experience and turning to the iPad for things like shoppings and reading online.

Some of the more interesting findings include:

  • iPad users spend 50% more on eBay than the average users (~$85.00/wk)
  • 91% of iPad owners have downloaded at least one app.

Rumor: 13-inch MacBook Pro spec leak. Now with Light Peak (Thunderbolt).

new macbook pro Rumor: 13 inch MacBook Pro spec leak. Now with Light Peak (Thunderbolt).

Gizmodo has “stumbled” onto an alleged MacBook Pro photo that shows off nothing all that new, with the exception of one obvious port. Currently present on the leaked photos are USB ports, FireWire ports, and all the other standard fare ports you’d expect to find on MacBook Pros these days. But, instead of the Display Port being a display port, it has a lighting bolt for its icon. Gizmodo, as well as many others, are speculating openly that it could be Intel’s Light Peak technology making its debut in the new machine.

Amazon Prime offers free video streaming

Amazon Prime offers free video streaming Photo 500x261 Amazon Prime offers free video streamingIt looks like Apple’s going to get some more competition from Amazon, this time in the video arena. Amazon has been selling and renting videos for quite sometime now on their site, but they’ve decided to change things up a bit. Amazon is now offering their Prime members a nice little bonus: streaming movies from their library for free. That’s right, free. Well, you still have to pay $79 a year for the Prime membership, but with that you now get free video streaming with your same free faster shipping options.

Now don’t get too excited about this new feature. Amazon’s library for Prime members is still pretty small compared to that of Netflix or even Apple’s offerings. The initial library will “start with a 5000 movie and TV Show catalog…”  The other caveat is that unless you own a streaming device that will play Amazon’s content, such as the Roku, you are out of luck on watching videos on your big screen TV. You will be relegated to your computer screen for watching a movie. Now, for some this might not be an issue, but I prefer to watch movies on my 50-inch Plasma TV. I also would not hold my breath for seeing this as a add-on feature to the Apple TV, as we have seen with Netflix.

This is pretty interesting that Amazon has now decided to offer their streaming video content for free. Could it be that Amazon is seeing a shift away from physical media, and they want to jump on the bandwagon that Apple and Netflix are riding? Will this cause Apple to start offering some of their content free for streaming only? Or, will Hollywood finally let content deliverers have first crack at the newest movies, instead of having them wait a year or more?  At this point it’s anyones guess. This is definitely a shift in the right direction for streaming content.

white macbook Rumor: White MacBook to be discontinued? The MacBook has had an interesting life. Introduced in 2006, the white (and black) 13-inch notebook brought Intel chips and a new case design, launching a new family following up the widely succesful iBook G4 line. Despite issues with heat sinks, firmware, top cases and hard drives, the MacBook family has been a smash hit.

According to a new rumor over at Apple Insider, the thrill ride may be coming to an end, as Apple may be thinking about discontinuing the MacBook.

iphone macbook air Almost every Apple product but White Unicorn iPhone 4 wins Engadget award

I’m in the business of writing about Apple news, but even I was a little bit taken back by the clean sweep Apple just pulled off in the 2010 Engadget Awards—Readers’ Choice poll. I’m not exactly sure what to say, except that every major Apple product pulled out a win except for the White “Unicorn” iPhone 4, but it probably would have too if it had actually shipped by now. If there was a major category, an Apple product won.

10.6.7 is expected to be released at some point to the public. At least, that’s what we’ve heard.

Safari6 Twelve South is shipping the BookArc for Air

We reported on it when it was announced, and we reported when there was a fuss being made about the original BookArc not supporting the new MacBook Air, so now we’re reporting that the BookArc Air edition is finally shipping. Hurrah!

If you have a MacBook Air, and you’re looking for a nice stand for your desk, the BookArc makes a nice little edition to your family. I currently have my MacBook Pro sitting in one, and it looks great. The BookArc for Air is $39.99, a full $10.00 cheaper than the normal BookArc. Not too shabby if you ask me.
