In addition to that new mountain wallpaper, Apple has posted a good bit of info on its upcoming upgrade to Mac OS X:
Versions
OS X Lion will automatically save a copy of a document each time it is opened, and automatically, every hour. Versions is a new component of Time Machine, which was introduced in OS X 10.5 Leopard.
Resume
After a reboot (from a software update, for example), Lion users will have the ability to have their Macs reboot with every program and document open, just as it was before shutdown.

Video editors concerned about the future of Apple’s Final Cut Pro application can breath a little sigh of relief now. According to TechCrunch, not only is Apple still committed to updating the venerable video editing suite, but its next release will be a major upgrade. According to its sources, a small group of professional video editors was invited to Apple campus recently to check out the new version of Final Cut Pro and give their feedback.
“Dramatic and ambitious,” is how one tester described it. Another reported that the new release covers everything from a redesigned UI to under the hood structural changes. Sources described the new version as “the biggest overhaul to Final Cut Pro since the original version was created 10 years ago.”

The Motorola Xoom, which is set to be released today, February 24th, 2011, has a slight issue. In order to upgrade the Motorola Xoom’s 3G connection to LTE, you will need to send the device back to the Manufacturer.
This means that it’s not just a software upgrade to enable LTE, but a hardware and software upgrade. This is entirely handled by Motorola and one upside is that this won’t cost the user anything, not even shipping and handling fees. The additional positive aspect is that users won’t have to change their data plan. The worst part is that it will take up to 6 business days to complete the upgrade.

As expected, Apple today has announced new MacBook Pros.
All models ship with a Core i5 or i7, with quad-core processors showing up in the 15- and 17-inch variants. Each model comes with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor, with the AMD (!!) Radeon chipsets. The new machines also include a “FaceTime HD” camera, with much better low-light performance, and the ability to record and chat in 720p to other new MacBook Pro owners. An SDXC card slot is also present.
The external design looks unchanged, except for one logo on the side of the machine: Thunderbolt.
Thunderbolt — Apple’s implementation of Intel’s Light Peak — boasts massive performance increases over USB and FireWire 800. Using the Mini-DisplayPort, Thunderbolt is backwards-compatible with numerous standards, including HDMI, DVI, VGA, USB and more.
We fully expect to see this tech show up in other Apple products soon, as well as on a slew of third-party accessories.

After what feels like years of speculation, it appears that we finally have an answer to what Apple is doing in North Carolina. According to AppleInsider, who was in attendance for Apple’s annual shareholders meeting, the data center is for iTunes, MobileMe, and Apple’s Corporate systems. It’s all set to debut this spring. Are we finally going to find out why they bought Lala? Bigger, badder MobileMe that’s possibly free? Hopefully we only have to wait until March 2nd to get some real answers as I’m about rumored out for this week.
What do you think is waiting for us? Let us know in the comments.

If you don’t know your customers, you’re screwed. You need to know how people interact with your products, and more importantly, how they do it in a natural setting. Apparently Jobs knows this pretty well. According to a story from ZURBlog, Jobs would occasionally park himself outside of his local Apple Store, in the bushes, to watch how customers interacted with his products.

Since we’ve been covering iPad 2 rumors, we should probably let you know that Apple’s sent out invites to a media event for March 2, 2011. Turns out we weren’t invited. Ah well, if Gruber is right, maybe we’ll get an invite to an iPad 3 event before year-end.
Dare to dream.
So, we won’t be covering the event live, and we won’t pretend that we are either, but The Loop is, and we’ll be following along there. You should follow along there as well—they’re a great group of guys.

If you like Hipstamatic, Camera+, or any of those other photo manipulation applications for the iPhone, you’re going to be happy to know that Apple’s finally filed a patent application for Photo Booth on the iPhone. A couple of months back, rumors surfaced about the technology being included in the iPhone, but it wasn’t until today that anything official turned up.
