Goo explodes on the iPad to the tune of 125K downloads

World of Goo was a successful franchise before reaching iOS, but since it’s hit the iPad, sales have exploded to the tune of 125K downloads. That’s pretty huge when you take into account that the game has been out for a number of years, and the fact that it’s available on Mac OS X, Steam, and WiiWare.

This isn’t a new game by any means, but it’s a clear indication that games can find new life by getting their application in front of the iOS masses.

This might also be another indicator that the Mac App Store has a ton of potential. Giving consumers a well laid out store front for applications has been huge for developers. 2D Boy, the creators of World of Goo, can now attest to the power of an App Store. But they’re not alone. Pixelmator cleared $1 million in sales in just 21 days on the Mac App Store.

If you’re interested in the business of the iOS App Store, you can read an opus on the World of Goo iPad launch, complete with graphs, on their website.
