The App Store: almost 10 billion downloads served

It’s hard to remember that the App Store is only a couple of years old already. It seems like just yesterday that Apple was arguing the merits of web-apps only on the iPhone. The App Store may have been released in 2008, but it’s already a stalwart in most Apple-centric homes. Today, Apple has announced that they’re quickly approaching the 10 billion download mark from the App Store. Can you imagine how many 1′s and 0′s that is being pushed across the internet?

Along with the announcement comes an Apple promotion: Apple will give away a $10,000 iTunes gift card to the lucky person who downloads the 10 billionth application.

That should keep you occupied for a while. As always, there are a ton of regulations and “rules,” so you’re going to want to hit up the link for details.
