Two iPads — Two reactions

Two iPads — Two reactions

My parents are generous and cool people. Yesterday, they made my Christmas by surprising me with an iPad. At the same time, they also bought my sister one. You can tell a lot about the difference between my sister and I based upon our initial reaction. When I first opened the gift, I apparently exclaimed “Get the fuck out of here.” I was told that I said this, but I have no recollection of this event. Perhaps I was in shock. A few moments later, my sister opened her gift and said “This is Apple’s version of the Kindle, right?” I have to admit that I winced a little bit.

I spent the next half hour dropping Jobs-ian science on her. Swiping, tapping, and rotation were abundant to say the least. Not long after that, she really began to grasp what she was given. “It’s like I get to take the best part of my computer with me,” she said. After shaking my head “No” for so long, I was very pleased that I could nod in agreement with that statement.

I’ve long, long been on record that you can’t fully explain the iPad. It has to be experienced to fully be understood. Today proved that to me beyond any reasonable doubt. My sister is now an iPad fan.

Agree about the experience part.. yet I find people's experiences all over the board the more I hear from fans and haters of Apple alike. There are the Apple haters who WANT to hate the iPad... they will do everything they can to put it down... "doesn't work on my wifi until I upgraded the iOS - it should just work like my Android phone.." Then there are the Microsoft fans.. or even not just fans but those used to Windows. They want the iPad to be Windows and are incapable of thinking about how they do things in a different way. Many refuse to look at tools like Dropbox or Evernote... as stupid as it is to use Windows 7 on a iPad-like tablet, I swear thats really what they want and they would be better off suffering with it. Then there are those that just get it.. you know, they GET IT... these are the people I want to hang around with and call my friends because I know they can free their mind from yesterdays way of thinking while enjoying the quality that is an Apple product.

Here's to all you that help those that are just a little lost into getting it...

Apple's version of the Kindle? Haha. Well, the Kindle has been around much longer than the iPad, so maybe she was right in saying so. I wonder if the Kindle sits higher in most non-tech consumer's minds than the iPad. I'd be curious to see if your sister was given a choice between the two what would she pick. Anyway, I sure hope she stays an iPad/Apple fan for a long time to come.
