Epic’s Project Sword now Infinity Blade

Remember that epic game that Epic showed off during Apple’s Back to School event in September? The one where there was a giant ogre-like character and some miniature guy battling on the screen, using two different control schemes? Epic has released some new details about it today. First, they’ve renamed it to Infinity Blade. That’s a smart move. Project Sword was a little bit lame.

Infinity Blade will be RPG-based, use the Unreal Engine 3, and will be a single player game at first. Epic plans on adding Game Center-based multiplayer features to the game at a later date.

The game is expected to be released “this holiday season.”

I’ve been pretty excited for a couple of games on iOS devices, but this one’s at the top of the list. Epic has the opportunity to redefine gaming on mobile devices with Infinity Blade, and hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.

Here’s some updated screenshots of Infinity Blade. Hopefully this puts the claim that the iPod is a casual gaming device to rest.
