iOS passes Linux to become 3rd most popular browsing platform

2617199589 781ef8fd01 z 300x192 iOS passes Linux to become 3rd most popular browsing platform“It’s a mobile device,” they say. “But it’s not meant for surfing the internet,” they say. “Apple’s apps are ruining the web,” they say. Android users have said each and every one of these thing in the comments here on the site.

Well folks, this non-competitive, internet destroyer of a technology known as iOS just passed Linux as the third most used internet browsing platform. We’re not big on block quotes around here, but Vince Vizzaccaro, Net Applications vice president, had this to say about iOS, “It’s something to take note of when a mobile operating system passes something that’s been around forever…Whatever the sales are, we’re seeing iOS totally dominate the market on the Web,” Vizzaccaro said. “iOS has nearly a 6:1 advantage over Android.”

He’s bang on if you ask us, iOS has exploded, and it’s already overtaken a traditional operating system. Android’s got its work cut out for them if they’re going to over take the iPhone and iPad, and they better be in it for the long haul because it’s going to take awhile before they catch up with the iPhone.

The fact that the most hyped platform in the HISTORY of computing took this long to pass Linux, which has been declared “dead on the desktop” for about a decade now, says a lot about the level of hype that iOS receives compared to its impact in the real world. Like or not, Windows is still the driver of most technology, and all things Apple and Linux are just also-rans.

I find it humorous that on the same date, this article was posted showing quite the contrary; http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20015564-260.html in fact, google news used your ubuntu icon as the thumbnail which in turn linked me to your article.

Not as humours as I. You do realize your link shows statistics for the mobile market alone, right?

Yes, agreed its a tad ‘out of scope’ with your article, but what i find noteworthy is the rapid surge in Web browsing on the Android Platform and declining statistics for Apple this year. Personally I believe this is a major win for the mobile market as a whole and shows a very important shift in the technical sector but not specifically for apple unless they can grab hold of the rains continue to compete with the many android offerings that will be biting at their heels this year.
