Bluetooth 4.0 Spec Approved

MacWorld is reporting that the Bluetooth 4.0 specification has been approved by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. This low-power standard will allow devices to communicate back and forth in bursts without having a substantial effect on battery life. Apparently, this version will continue Bluetooth 3.0’s feature of allowing high speed data transfer utilizing Wi-Fi in conjunction with traditional Bluetooth communication.

I find this update to the specification to hold a lot of promise for the future of gadgets. With a reduction in power requirements, we could see Bluetooth communication implemented in a lot more devices than previously. We could potentially have interacting devices all around us all the time. I, for one, can’t wait to see what the develops can do with Bluetooth 4. I’ll bet cool things are just over the horizon.

What do you think about Bluetooth 4, and technology in general? Are you interested in having everything around you interact? Let us know in the comment section of this post. If you’d prefer, you can also find me on Twitter. Either way, I’d love to hear from you.
