There’s no one thing the iPad excels at, because frankly, it excels at everything I throw at it (except maybe flash, huzzah). All kidding aside, the huge advantage the iPad has over its competitors is that it can be anything you want it to be; a gargantuan AppStore means that there’s likely an application out there that meets your needs.

Take for instance a video segment we’ve been working on for the video podcast. We found ourselves getting really annoyed having to hold up a laptop as a teleprompter when we’re out of the studio (in studio we have the infamous GhettoPrompter), so I thought I’d turn my iPad into a mobile GhettoPrompter. A quick search of the AppStore returned a result for PrompterPal for $4.99. I was a bit skeptical about using an application that’s so cheap, considering some of the iPhone prompting applications have a hefty price tag. Turns out, it was a wise investment.
PrompterPal has everything you’d expect from a teleprompter application. The ability to edit your text, increase and decrease font size, mirror your screen, and control scroll speed are all a quick menu away.

But the perks don’t end there. PrompterPal also gives you the ability to connect to the application from your laptop over a wireless network so that you can move your scripts to the device seamlessly. I can’t illustrate enough just how handy that feature is for my workflow. When multiple people write multiple scripts for our podcast, it becomes pretty laborious having to manage them and get them onto our teleprompter. Being able to upload them directly to an iPad is a huge time saver for me.
The creators of PrompterPal, Sunshine Valley Systems, have even put together an iPhone app that acts as a remote so that you can control the scrolling speed of PrompterPal from a remote location, like from across the room while your colleague is trying to read off her lines.
You can download the iPad app on iTunes for $4.99

Nice article, I've been considering this app vs. one called iPrompter. But with that iPhone remote capability I'm thinking that PrompterPal will gain my vote

LikeIt works really well. It took me a bit to figure out how to use it, but all in all it's worth the money
