You can now buy Apps with Gift Cards in Canada

You can now buy Apps with Gift Cards in CanadaIt may come as a surprise to most, but up until today Canadians were unable to purchase iPhone, iPad, and Touch applications from Apple’s AppStore using an iTunes gift card. Apple would let you buy music, movies, and videos using a gift card, but in order to purchase applications you had to have a credit card attached to your account.

It seems like Apple has finally gotten around to straightening out the mess up here in Canada. While the support page for iTunes doesn’t make mention of the new ability yet, we’ve got confirmation from some of our writers.  You’re now able to use gift cards to purchase applications.

We’ve still yet to find out if Canadian AppStore users can redeem coupon codes for Apps. Hopefully Apple has cleared up this problem as well, it’s pretty annoying having to manage multiple iTunes accounts (both a Canadian and US account). I’d personally love to do away with one of them.

I just missed this deadline and my $1.99 app cost me 109,000% interest because the purchase went to my VISA card instead of my itunes balance. Here is exactly what happened. I used my 0 balance VISA to pay off my son's tuition and outstanding residence cost (about $6,000) had to use VISA as it was online. I quickly paid that off and had 0 purchases on the card. OR SO I THOUGHT!!!

Today I received my VISA bill with the $1.99 app and over $12 in interest. All because the $1.99 hit my VISA 2 days before statement day, making all purchases for the month be charged interest!! That interest payment annualized is over 109,000%. Check it out $12 is 6 times or 600% of $2. 600% for 2 days is annualized 182 times or 109,500%

Wow!
