iPhone announcement date – June 22nd

It’s been a week since Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone OS 4.0, and all the new features it will provide.  I don’t know about you, but I was pretty excited to hear all the new advancements that the OS will have.  I for one thought for sure that Apple would also be announcing the new iPhone alongside the the new OS.  The reason being that they were announcing the new OS a month later than they usually do.  However, that was not the case.  iPhone OS 4.0 was the only thing announced at the Keynote last Thursday.  Don’t fret, dollface, it appears that an announcement will be made later than sooner though.

Cult of Mac writer, John Brownlee has some insight as to when the iPhone is going to be announced:

“What day should you block out? According to ModMYI, June 22nd, on which date Apple has once again booked the Yerba Buena Center for Arts at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.”

With all the new stuff that Apple is releasing this past month, it’s no surprise that the announcement will be that late in June.  So what does that mean for a release date?  Not sure.  We can speculate that it will be at the end of June, or the beginning of July.  That’s when Apple released the iPhone 3G two years ago.  Moreover, Apple might decide to release the iPhone on the same day that they announce it.  At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

The next couple of months are going to be really interesting.  The rumor mill is going to be at full speed.  Trust me we’re going to hear everything from front facing cameras on the iPhone, to that, the iPhone will walk your dog for you.  I can see it now, “Need your dog walked?  There’s an app for that.”  All joking aside, the blogosphere is going to fill with rumors galore right up until Apple makes their announcement.  My advice to you is to take them all with a grain of salt.  I’d like to hear when you think Apple is going to release the iPhone.  Will it be on announcement day or after?  Leave a comment in the comments section below, and let us know what you think.
