NewsGator: A Giant Inconvenience

Grant Brünner | Mon, Aug 3, 2009 @ 4:05 pm

NewsGator recently announced that they are shutting down their syncing service for NetNewsWire and FeedDemon, but that’s not all. They are also completely removing the option of syncing your feeds via MobileMe. The only way you’ll be able to sync your feeds is by using Google’s Reader service.

The entire reason behind using RSS readers is to simplify the news reading process. News readers are there to streamline your experience. I’m sure NewsGator has a reason for the switch. Frankly, I am not interested in their reasoning for shutting down the ability to use other syncing services. Their business operations shouldn’t inconvenience the end user. Because NewsGator doesn’t seem to respect their users, I have decided to stop using their products and services.

If you are a NetNewsWire refugee, there are many options out there. I suggest checking out Mail.app, Safari, NewsFire, Times, Google Reader with Fluid, and Bloglines with Fluid.

Competition is a beautiful thing.

It’s really lame that they did this. Also, Brad… I love eventbox it’s so handy. Sadly though, NewsGator has made me realize that moving to google’s reader, and Feedly recently was a very wise decision.
