First Generation iPod Nano Class Action Settlement

February 3, 2009

Looks like Apple has settled the class action lawsuit against the first generation iPod Nano scratching too easily due to not having coating on the device. The settlement comes to $22.5 million.

The affected iPods are First Generation iPod Nanos. These were the ones that were introduced in September of 2005 and were black and white.

There is a website for this at http://www.ipodnanosettlement.com/

This only applies to those who have uncoated iPod Nanos. In order to see if your iPod Nano is covered under the suit, you will have to go to the website and enter your serial number.

Here is the breakdown of how much you could get:
- iPod Nano with coating $0.00 (Not Covered)
- iPod Nano without coating
- With Slipcase $15.00
- Without Slipcase $25.00

There’s a bunch of legalese in the document entitled “Class Notice” on the website. Basically, it may be a bit more if not everybody files a claim. It may be a bit less if more than the maximum for the $22.5 million file a claim. But will not receive anything more than $37.50 (if there is money). I wouldn’t get my hopes up, since Apple tends to sell quite a few iPod Nanos.

I’m not a lawyer, so nothing I really say can be used in a court, so read the documents.

I know I’m filling out one for my iPod Nanos. One of which is not covered, but the other one is.

Unfreezing your iPhone without using a microwave to unthaw it.

2968794599 219b315d90 m Unfreezing your iPhone without using a microwave to unthaw it.Most of you know to restart your iPhone, and power the sucker down.  If you don’t and you have no clue at all what I’m talking about. You should probably let your battery die, restart it, and then charge it.  Everything needs a good reset once and a while, and your iPhone is not different.

Anyway,  if your phone is acting up and freezing worse than this Canadian winter we’re having up here in the hinterland of North America, I have four suggestions for you, and for the first time in awhile they’re all polite.

First, if you’re stuck in an application, or the application seems sluggish, hold down the home button, and don’t let go until you’re taken back to your home screen.  I said hold, and don’t tap!

This restarts an application and completely clears all of its crap out of your ram. It might help.

Second, you can reset the phone.  Hold down the sleep button and the home button, much like you would do if you were planning on powering off the phone.  But the really kicker here is to not let go.  Keep those buttons pushed until the Apple logo appears.  Voila, a phone reset.  Hopefully this helps.

Third, delete your crap.  No seriously. Your crap could be the problem…not the phone.  You can do this manually, or read step four.

Fourth, reset the phone’s settings.  This little ditty is pretty simple and helped me out of a crazy jam that I really, really, really, don’t want to revisit.   The first step is to reset the settings on the phone.  You can get to this by going to your settings application, clicking on general, then reset, and then reset all settings.  If this doesn’t work, you should probably start thinking about deleting your thousand copies of (http://bit.ly/2lfwBu).  You can delete everything by going back into your settings, then general, then reset, and click on the erase all contents and settings.

There you have it, four ways of getting that iPhone unfrozen, if it doesn’t work I suggest sticking it in an oven, turning the knob to 400 degrees, taking it out, letting it cool down, bringing it to an Apple store and telling them you would like to replace your phone, and that it is still under warranty… don’t believe them when they tell you it’s no longer covered.  How else can you unfreeze something without adding heat?

2958903567 fc3500ba55 Photoshop: Importing multiple images into multiple layersDid you know that you can load multiple images into a whole bunch of layers in one Photoshop file?  Well, if you said no, then you’re not alone! The internet is filled with questions on how to do this so I thought it would be best to give a quick tutorial.  I’m not sure about the support in CS3 and previously, but in CS4, Bridge gives you all the tools you need to import images into multiple layers in one Photoshop document.

  1. Open Bridge.
  2. Navigate to the directory that your images reside in
  3. Select the files.  You can click and drag around them, or use the shift button to select multiple files.
  4. Now in the menu bar select Tools > Photoshop > Load Files into Photoshop layers

Now all those images are in one Photoshop files and you can get your edit or design on.  How simple was that?

Update: John Rossi let us know via email that In CS3 there is an ability to load multiple images into layers using a script. Choose File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack.
