My past with Mailplane has been checkered and very love/hate. I’m not the only one either. A lot of people swear by it, and a couple more people swear at it constantly. Personally, I don’t use my GMail accounts enough to warrant using it anymore, but I know a lot of you do. I love the concept, and love how it works, so if I get around to using gmail frequently I’ll probably give it another go.
The update includes:
key shortcuts, advanced account notifications, a “œdo not disturb” mode and a simpler way to add attachments. The update also allows switching from multiple accounts without having to sign-in and sign-out repeatedly, and adds a Mailplane URL function that can be used to access searches and conversations from applications.
It’s not free, but $25.00 is quite the lucrative price point. On second thought, I think it’s time I give this little program another kick at the can. Stay tuned for quick review… at some point in the future.

I am very much in the “Swear at it” camp.

I hate to use tacky language, but I have to say MailPlane SUCKS! I really don't get the point of it. All I want is:
1. An email program where you can simply slide/drag/drop photos into an email and have them be EMBEDDED and not “attached” at the bottom of your email.
2. An email program that has the HTML toolbar right at your fingertips along the top of the compose window (like the old OE for Mac), which Mail.app does NOT have.
What is such a “monster” so hard to find? Isn't this the 21st century?
I thought Gmail and MailPlane might be the saving grace on these things, but after signing up for the free Gmail version, and downloading the trial version of MailPlane, and working with them both for two days non-stop, I feel like screaming at how Gmail/Mailplane chops off my long emails, and how they RUN ALL EMAILS TOGETHER in one long nightmare where you cannot tell what is what. I also can't stomach that Gmail/Mailplane will not let me make simple FILE FOLDERS. It's insanity.
Arrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I have been re-checking all the email programs out there since 2006, and they all “suck” due to #1-2 above, or either I'm missing something here. For 2 days I did a pictoral email re: a 15-k race for my sis, included news and observations and photos, etc. But when I send it from Gmail or MailPlane or Mail.app to each other/vice-versa, and all around, either the photos don't show up when received, or they are attached vs. being embedded, or Gmail/Mailplane chops off the end of the email, etc. etc. Insanity! (And yes, I signed up for Picasa, as well, to see if THAT would make the photos STAY PUT in the emails, but zilch).
I just can't believe they make these things so convoluted and crazy. It should be SO SIMPLE, like OE for Mac 5.0.6 was SO SIMPLE. All it is lacking, even at this late date, is it attaches photos at the end of your text rather than being embedded.
I get embedded emails from websites all the time. How do THEY do it? When I try it (and send them thru yahoogroups, too, btw) the photos are always missing at yahoogroups, yet these other emails that come from websites keep all their graphics intact when forwarded to yahoogroups, etc. etc.
I thought mac techies who come up with all this stuff are supposed to be such smart people, but I tell you, they sure don't make the apps WORK SMOOTHLY like they should. Apple's Mail.app I have TRIED to “like” numerous times, but it is insane there is no HTML bar along the top of the compose window.
Why can't someone just “re-create” OE for Mac and add the ability to embed photos/graphics, videos, audio files within the next via drag and drop?
How hard would that be?
;-/
BooooooooooooooHooooooooooooooo.
I am fried about all of this.
Oh well, thanks for the rant!
