I guess it was only a matter of time until someone decided to Mac a non-iTunes appstore that lets users download games for the Mac. It’s not a groundbreaking “new” concept, but it has yet to be done, until today. Mac Games Arcade is pretty much like the iTunes AppStore. It lets you browse games, and buy them all in a couple of clicks. It’s a concept that could be a couple of box stores out of business if it’s done correctly, but that remains to be seen. I’m pretty optimistic about the beta, and it looks like it could be quite successful. It took me off guard that the prices were all about 19.99, and I wonder what effect the appstore will have on that price point. People seem to be expecting some super low prices for some pretty high quality games.
It should be interesting to see how it all plays out. I’m pretty excited about the concept, and really hope they do well. I’d prefer to not have to go to the Walmart or EBGgames, and Mac Games Arcade could make that possible.
