Buyer Beware of MacGuard Malware!

Mattie Kenny | Mon, Oct 20, 2008

Are you preparing for the end of world?  Apparently, some Apple users are and they’re buying anti-virus software called MacGuard.  MacGuard is a clone of a common Windows malware masquerading as virus protection called Winiguard.

Intego, a Mac security software firm, issued a warning to Mac users urging them not to purchase this software.  The website’s download link appears to be not functioning at this point, but if this product is anything like Winiguard, it will barrage your browser with pop-ups warning you that your computer is at risk.  It is believed that MacGuard was designed to scam credit cards, asking the user to pay a nominal fee to “clean” their computer then making multiple charges on the card.
