I think I get what they are going for. By putting Gates in a typically human situation (shopping for discount shoes, eating a tasty snack) he's being reintroduced to the public, not as a corporate mogul but as a regular dude. Brings him and his brand back down to earth a bit.

How does Jerry Seinfeld play into this? Well, Gates isn't really too interesting on his own, as we've seen in some of his previous works. So throw in a superstar comedian and make Billy the straight man. Classic comedy formula, works every time.

I'm sure there will be follow up ads - this is only the beginning of the campaign. I am interested to see what else they come up with. It's hard to beat "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC", but looks like that's what they might be attempting to do.

Hello -- first time on the site. Always nice to see another quality Mac-related host out there!

With regard to the ad; I think it may actually turn out to be brilliant, after a fashion, if they continue to run a campaign of similar clips. I don't think it's necessarily directly about Vista, but more about making Bill Gates human (I think macanuck hit the nail on the head), and someone people can relate to/with. If (it's a big 'if', I know.) they (the ad agency handling it) can manage to do that, along with top-notch personalities like Seinfeld, it could actually make a sizable dent in the general public impression, and benefit much more than Vista in the process. In addition, I don't think it was such a coincidence they chose Seinfeld to kick it all off with: Remember all his Macs in the background on the show, dating all the way back to the DuoDock?

At any rate, it'll be interesting to see how they fare, and whether (or possibly not) they bungle it along the way. ; )

Here's what I think.

I think the Richest Man in the World

and the Highest Paying TV Star in The World (former)

Are trying to pretend to be average everyday schmoes. Trying to say that Windows is not all hoity toity. Are trying to...why is Lisa staring at me?

Sorry. Anyway. Where was I? They're trying to be average joes, and I don't know if it will wash.

It's either that or "Hey, look at Bill's Bum!"

Nice strategy: make PCs edible and people have to buy more of them. Mind you, it probably means they'd have to cost less than $5 each.
