Browsers and web standards

Brennan Schnell | Wed, Mar 19, 2008

With the new Safari updates I have decided to run the acid3 test to determine which browser if any would nail the web standards test.

In order from highest to lowest:

  • Safari 3.1 – 75/100 (link test failed error)
  • Mozilla 3 Beta 4 – 67/100
  • Mozilla 2.0.0.12 – 52/100
  • Safari 3.0 – 40/100
  • IE 8 beta 1 – 18/100
  • IE 6 -  12/100
  • IE 7  -  11/100 (counter productive?)

So far it looks like Safari is winning the race! This is a clear indication that browsers should be focusing on using general web standards  not the standards which they themselves set.

If anyone has different results for any of the browsers you see above or any other browsers feel free to leave a comment.

What about Opera? Check out one of the snapshot builds at my.opera.com/desktopteam, they’re doing pretty well.
