Apple has updated its Airport Express line, and it now clocks in at the blazingly fast 802.11n. For those of you not in the know, the Airport Extreme lets you share your internet with up to 10 people wirelessly as well as stream your iTunes library to a stereo. It’s a pretty nifty little device. If you feel the need for the speed of N you might want to check it out.

I have an older 802.11n airport. It will only connect at N speeds if you exclusively set it to that mode. The compatibility mode will only go as fast as G. Does yours connect at N while allowing slower connections from other devices at the same time?

My understanding is that you will only get N speeds if all the devices on the network are running on the N system. If you have B/G on the network, the speed for all machines connected will automatically downgrade to the lowest common protocol.
